Culturally Responsive Assessment: Provisional Principles

Recent criticisms of large‐scale summative assessments have claimed that the are biased against historically excluded groups because assessments' lack cultural representation. Accompanying these is a call for more culturally responsive assessments—assessments take into account background characteristics students; their beliefs, values, and ethics; lived experiences; everything affects how they learn behave communicate. In this paper, we present provisional principles, based on review research, deem necessary fostering responsiveness in assessment. We believe application principles can address current assessments.
